Patrick Carman (born February 27, 1966) is an American author of the The Land of Elyon series, the Atherton series, the Elliot's Park series, the Skeleton Creek Saga, and the fifth 39 Clues book. His books have been translated into approximately two dozen languages.

Patrick Carman was born on February 27, 1966, in Salem, Oregon. Carman is a graduate of Willamette University.[1] He started out working in advertising, game design, and technology. After a career as an entrepreneur, Carman became an author, specialized in writing for young adults and children. He is now living in the small city of Walla Walla, Washington,[1] with his wife Karen and two daughters, Reece and Sierra.[2]
His first book, The Dark Hills Divide, in The Land of Elyon series, was published in 2003. He then proceeded to write the remaining two books of the trilogy before writing the Atherton series, from an idea he got while touring around America. With high demand for the best-selling series of books accompanied by videos that are viewed online, Skeleton Creek is the first of its kind. He created the saga around the haunted dredges in a Skeleton Creek. He attempted to bridge the gap between technology and books. Amber Larsen (playing Sarah Fincher), Tom Rowley (playing Ryan McCray) and Jim Michelson (playing Daryl Bonner) appear in the videos. The book is Ryan's part of the story, who loves to write and after an accident at the dredges leaves him bedridden and banned from contact with Sarah, he secretly feeds Sarah information, who films her developments in discovering the truth about the haunted dredges- hence the videos, which are all made by Sarah. His newest vBook is a tech thriller named Trackers. It is about a group of tech-savvy kids using technology to solve mysterious puzzles put online by a mysterious girl involved in a dangerous online scheme. He was asked to be a part of The 39 Clues series, which will be written by seven different authors (Carman included). The others are Rick Riordan, Gordon Korman, Peter Lerangis, Margaret Peterson Haddix, Linda Sue Park, and Jude Watson[3] Carman's The Black Circle is the series' book 5, released on August 11, 2009.[4]
Patrick Carman encourages reluctant readers to embrace the written word through his technological, cross-platform storytelling. This innovative blending of the traditional book and new media literacy experiences has caught the attention of bloggers, reviewer and educators. Susan Carpenter of the Los Angeles Times commented about Carman’s innovative approach in her November 13, 2011 article about DARK EDEN titled Not Just for Kids: 'Dark Eden' by Patrick Carman. “Is it a book? A film? An audio book? "Dark Eden" is all three — an effort on the author's part to encourage reluctant readers to embrace the written word through technological enticements. But even in its humble print form, without any of the bells and whistles and gadgetry, "Dark Eden" is a compelling read that transposes the best aspects of classic horror storytelling onto a modern backwoods adventure reluctantly experienced by seven terrified teens.”
On March 5, 2011 Patrick Carman gave a TEDx talk to educators about 21st Century literacy for TEDx NYED.[5]
The movie rights for The Land of Elyon have been purchased and the series is currently in pre-production as a CGI film.[6]
